Stuff happens. I swapped my sup Curse to a minor Curse once I started getting spanked in HM. Save on consumables.

Yes you are a squishy, that means you don't just stand there when the aggro swaps to you (this is part of the job of any mid- or back-line character). You can kite, apply weakness, apply miss chance, bring a defensive stance, bring an armor or protective spell, or stay farther back in the first place. In any event, +armor is almost always better than +health, unless you're getting spiked repeatedly.

I've been running a successful SS for several years now... My hp is around 480, energy (which is critical to an SS) is 55 (including weapon add, I think)
Max out your curses AND soul reaping and take Signet of Lost Souls.

I've been running a fairly successful N/Rt Icy Veins Build to run with Sabway, I currently have 601 health and 50 energy, energy isn't all that important for me since the minions are constantly giving me energy, I was running an Echo SS build with only 40 energy and rarely had to wait between casts.

For PVE only--I use A wailing wand-halve recharge of curse spells, chance 20%, energy +5 and a bone idol energy +12, energy +15 energy degen -1 health + 20 I use 2 sup runes to give me 16 in curses and 15 in soul reaping -my energy is 60 and my health is 436. I kite a lot, die rarely.

I'll definitely have to look into this. That's a lot of energy with that much health. EDIT: Figured that out, duh! I use 2 sup runes and only a major vigor to Moloch's 1 sup rune and sup vigor. That's 84 less health just in runes.
I use a great echo ss skill bar--and [skill]signet of lost souls[/skill] gives me 100 health and 10 energy when used.

I agree 100%. Watching the screen fill with 37s is wonderful.

I didn't say anything about standing there and you say to kite and not stand there, but suggest casting while under attack?
If I need extra armour, I just bring shield swaps I think +health is better since it's unconditional, although tormentor's armour bonus is always there I don't like taking extra damage from holy damage.
You shouldn't need to bring your own protective spells or defensive stances.
I just think with Soul Reaping, Signet of Lost Souls and Glyph of Lesser Energy being as amazing as they are, running radiant insignias and attunement runes is cheating yourself.

I find I get the most out of the staff of the forgotten that gives +20 energy, +30 hp, and requires 9 soul reaping. This gives a good amount of extra energy, and allows me to change between curses, blood, and death magic w/o having to change weapons (I always have at least 10 in soul reaping anyway).
Barring that, a +5 energy wand and a +12 energy offhand would do just fine, and will give a nice bonus to casting time, recharge, or both.

First, bring Glyph of lesser energy since SS cost a lot of energy. Or signet that give you energy when foe is below 50% (though work best for hero not for players lol.)
Second, make a 40/40 set or a 40/20 set with +1 Curse
Third, use Tormentor insig if you are PvE (the +10 armor is really with the exception with Smite dmg which you won't face much.) Blight Insig if you are PvP (Since most build nowaday use hexes of different types.)
Note: You can try to use the Blood enchant that give you +2 curse as well since you don't need much atribute on it and you don't use sac spells/skills. Notice: This is for PvE ONLY.
